Why You Need to Tour Nursing Homes Now
Many of us will at one point or another be faced with the issue of finding appropriate care for an aging loved one. It may not be a pleasant thought to consider, and we may find ourselves too busy with life and work to consider finding a quality nursing home–particularly if the senior is healthy, independent and spry.
The unfortunate reality is that none of us know when a crisis or urgent need for nursing home placement will happen. When we neglect to proactively create a care plan, we will find ourselves scrambling for solutions in response to an unexpected crisis. Such scrambling to find a safe place for our loved one only brings stress, pressure and anxiety to everyone involved.
One of the best things you can do for your aging loved one is to proactively learn about the various nursing homes, available services, quality and reviews.
The subject of long-term care, home care, senior living care and respite care can be challenging because it may feel hurtful to those involved. But the more we take the time to discuss these pertinent issues and obtain important wishes or preferences, the better prepared we will be should an emergency occur.
Go online to learn about every nursing home option and find out what the community has to say about the facility and staff. Tour and visit local nursing homes and assisted living facilities multiple times to get a more accurate picture of daily life in that home. Pay close attention to the cleanliness of the facility, as well as the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff. Talk to the residents about what they love or dislike about being there.
